It’s another cold, bright morning and after watching last night’s forecast, I think we are in for it for the next week or so with even more colder air coming down from the north. It will help kill the bugs though and that must be a good thing. We have been cantering close to home this morning on Hamilton Hill polytrack. It has been quite a hectic morning as Her Majesty will be opening the new museum today, as well as a new statue that has been built on the entrance to the town. The Cambridge Road gallops are going to be shut from 10 o’clock and although it is a cold day, I am sure there will be big crowds out to welcome her. It is marvellous we have got a monarch that loves racing as much as she does.

Both runners ran well last night with Velvet Voice behaving impeccably and was only beaten around 6 lengths in what will turn out to be a very above average maiden. I hope I can give her another run this year before having a proper campaign with her next season. Regal Galaxy ran well to be third, beaten a short head for second and I am pleased she handled this track as well as at Chelmsford. I am sure she will get her head in front once or twice this year, but at least the ones we are running are starting to run consistently and well.

It is interesting that the jump courses are finding the dry spell quite disruptive. In fact Taunton has had to be abandoned because there is hard in the going description. There looks to be all sorts of excuses as to why they have not watered, or if they could water. I know this is very uncommon in the jumping world, but forward planning always helps. It must be very frustrating for the jump trainers who have the horses ready to run, but have nowhere to go. Maybe they will bring back jumping on the all-weather!
