It’s not quite as cold this morning and we haven’t had a frost. There is no wind so the temperature is not being increased. We have had one or two sharp showers of rain, which has only lasted a minute or two, but I would dress up warmer this weekend if you are going anywhere as it is forecast to get much colder. We have had one or two new members of staff in this morning which has made life a lot easier for everybody and let’s hope that they bind well with the good crew we already have. We have been cantering mainly on Hamilton Hill this morning, with everything going without a hitch.

We have no runners over the weekend and the main racing will be at Doncaster. This meeting brings down the curtain on the turf flat season with the November handicap which is being run for a disappointing £80,000 guaranteed. The ground looks like being on the fast side so check what going these horses want before having a bet. The other big meeting is the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita which starts tonight with four Grade 1 races and finishes tomorrow. Let’s hope most of the Europeans don’t use the needle and run clean without any drugs. I know the playing field will not be level, but we must try and make a stand and put the American horsemen to shame who don’t seem to be able to train unless their horses are chemically enhanced.

Her Majesty the Queen at the museum yesterday

We were honoured yesterday by having the Queen unveil her 90th birthday statue and the new racing museum. Angie and I were amongst the invitees at the museum and although it was very cold standing about whilst waiting, it was very well worth it. The Queen is an amazing lady. She looked absolutely marvellous and took time to talk to all sorts of people. I am sure she enjoyed the visit and took great interest in all that the museum has to offer. It is a most fantastic addition to the town and everybody should visit as soon as possible.

I thought I would let you see a picture of Pat Swayne and I at Kempton the other night as there was only one man a dog there. In fact, I don’t think there were any paying customers there at all, it was only connections of runners and bookmakers. It just goes to show how this sport is run purely for the bookmakers and nobody else. We were in the 8.25 so by the time the race had finished and the horses had an hour to calm down, the two girls didn’t get home until after midnight and the owners prize money was under £300 for being third. Why we need these meetings is beyond me, and it is a must to get the finances right before it is too late.

Thank you for the people who are starting to send cheques in for the weight loss charity. Please could I ask everybody to donate as much as possible as it will go to two great causes and everybody has tried so very hard. I know that all the participants who took it seriously have benefited from it and I think will keep going a bit more. Cheques payable to Raceworld please, or you can give me cash whenever you see me.
