It must be 10 degrees colder this morning and the increase in wind certainly doesn't help. It was like Siberia at first lot as the string spun down the Cambridge Road polytrack. I have kept second and third lots closer to home and the yearling breaking progress continues well. It has taken one or two of them a few days to twig what is required but they soon get into the routine.

We were delighted with Bracken Brae last night at Chelmsford where she kept her great record at the track in tact. She was always in command and should now go forward during the winter months. I think two miles will be within her compass and she is also a very good jumper of hurdles but will only be asked to do that on good ground. Her dam, Azure Mist, has a cracking Mount Nelson filly weanling who will be coming into the yard at the end of next year. She also has a two year old called Gee Sixty Six. He has shown plenty at home and is a great big colt, as big as Braken Brae now, and I think we shall keep him till the turf next year before unleashing him.

We have just had the first foal sale in Ireland this week with many unsold lots and both the average and median down. I know the better foals will be coming to Newmarket where the sales starts shortly, but the industry is starting to see a trend that is all or nothing. There doesn't seem to be any middle market whatsoever. The powers that be must stop putting their heads in the sand.

I see ITV are thinking of new ideas to attract viewing numbers and a wider audience and a lot of the big meetings and days will be promoted on some of their daytime programmes. I think this idea has got legs and, if done correctly, it could be the way forward. Let's certainly hope so.

For those of you who have not yet contributed to the Great Frankland Fast which was undertaken for the two very worthwhile charites above, any donations will be very gratefully received and please send them via the office with cheques payable to Raceworld. (See the competion page for details.) We shall be publishing the results soon. Thanking you in advance from a very cold and thin trainer.
