"Who being loved, is poor?"
Cantering on Hamilton Hill
It’s a bright crisp morning. We have not had the forecast heavy frost, just a light covering as the sun has come up. Once again no wind which is a godsend. It’s been a busy morning with most of the staff back in and all working well. The horses are looking great in the sunshine and they are doing all I ask of them at this time of the year.
We have one runner this evening at Chelmsford. Bracken Brae runs in the two mile race at 6.15. She has won three times here at Chelmsford and certainly likes the track, but she is yet to win over two miles though and this will tell us a lot more tonight. It is a step up in grade to what she has been running in, but I fully expect her to run a sound race.
Walking home after exercise
It is the start of the Dubai Carnival once again. It is amazing how it comes round so quickly and there will be lots of familiar names, both equine and human, taking part. As normal the prize money is very good but you need a hundred rated horse that is well handicapped to be competitive. It’s certainly not a cheap way to go racing as although the flights are paid for if you run three times, the expenses are now not as good as they once were. I don’t think there will be a lot of individual UK runners from normal owners going out there. You only have to look at the last race today to see that Hamdam runs six in the race, Godolphin two and there are six others locally based as well. it’s a great place to go for a few days though and if you have a horse that is capable of being competitive, it is certainly a good trip to take, all you need is a battle hardened horse who is rated a hundred or above.
