"The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated."
Mr Turner leading Astrostorm, Lost The Moon and Bracken Brae
The morning temperatures started off not too bad. When I was feeding at half past four it was quite mild, but as the light came up, it quickly got very icy and the fog rolled in and first lot was not very nice at all. We were slightly better off at second lot and now as we write this, the sun is really burning off the early morning mist. We have been cantering on Southfields Round followed by a canter back home up Hamilton Hill. Things have gone as well as can be expected but two more riders would help tremendously, so if you want a job riding out, give the office a ring.
Cantering up Hamilton Hill
Gee Sixty Six was a bit naughty again before the start at Lingfield on Friday, but all he wants is a good growl behind him. We will give him a bit more work before he runs next time, but he is a gentle giant and possesses quite a bit of ability. I think all the excitement of going into the stalls wound him up a bit and he bounded out, in the process using up too much energy. He still ran a sound race though and once we get him on a proper turf track with a long straight, he will develop into a smashing horse.
Also on Friday we sold the two that went to the sales. Heavensfield found a very nice home in Holland where she will be running races both in the Lowlands and Germany and Sweeping Beauty found a home much closer by with Sarah Humphrey’s who trains just outside Newmarket, at West Wratting.

I see there are a couple of politicians, one from both major parties, who are ready to challenge the new legislation that is soon to be going through parliament. Although they both say they support the aim to get offshore betting contributions, they did not believe it should be done this way. I hope it doesn’t derail the bill and that we don’t have any major hold-ups as if we do, the whole of racings prize money will be hit very hard and it could linger on for months. It would be nice to know what plan they would offer, but as normal in these matters, it is easy to protest, it is not easy to find the solutions and when the government have done all the work, let’s hope we can see the rewards.
