It's a very similar start to yesterday being bright with a slight breeze. Everybody is in who should be this morning and every horse has had two goood canters. We shall be doing some faster work tomorrow.

A disappointing day yesterday as Gee Sixty Six pulled off a plate as he entered the stalls and, as there was no farrier at the start, he had to be withdrawn. When we declare at a racecourse we always tick the box which says "Do not run if pulled front shoe off", and this is what the starter followed. It is extremely annoying as he would have run very well and David Noblett had made the long journey down from  Scotland.

I see long standing Goodwood clerk of the course, Seamus Buckley, is retiring at the end of the year. He has been a marvellous man to deal with over all my years of training. He has always been honest about the ground and most importantly puts the horse first at all times. His replacement, Ed Arkell, has big boots to fill but has been working with Seamus at the main Goodwood meetings for a few years, and let's hope he has learnt from the master and, although he will have his own ideas, he will continue in the same vein.
