It's a much cooler morning and feels quite damp out on the heath. There is a slight breeze and you certainly need a jacket and cap. We had everybody in once again and the horses have been doing very good canters on the polytracks close to home. All has gone well and we shall be having several runners tomorrow and Thursday.

It's Laytown races today which takes place on the sand when the tide is out and is a fantastic spectacle to see. Everybody stands on the shore and the cliffs and watches the racing take place. They are all six and seven furlong races and you need a horse that goes on the surface - and doesn't mind puddles. Jamie Osborne has taken two bus loads over and his aptly named Tidal's Baby could be his best chance. If you ever have the opportunity to go, make the effort as you will never forget it.

Alastair Down makes some good points today in his column in the Racing Post. He mentions all the negative publicity that horseracing has received lately, and thinks everyone should guard against the minority who want to undermine the sport. It is a well thought out piece and very thought provoking.

There's plenty of practising going on for the commentating competition and I think I'm improving . It's going to be good fun though and thank you to every body who has donated so far - it is very much appreciated.
