Hamilton Hill is the polytrack of choice

"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart."

A warm up trot in the rain before cantering

When I first came into the yard it was dry, calm and mild but as the morning has progressed, it is now raining, breezy and turning quite cold.  Rain is forecast for today though, clearing this evening then turning dry and bright right into next week. Hopefully we will be able to get the majority of the horses out before the heavy rain sets in. I have decided to stay close to home for today’s exercise using the polytrack on Hamilton Hill. The horses are in great condition and moving very well. I am really pleased with them and looking forward to a successful season.

True Calling and Velvet Voice

It will be interesting to see how Aidan O’Brien’s Mendelssohn runs in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday after taking a 125 mile detour to Indianapolis. This was all due to an issue with his travel documents. Aidan has reported that he ‘travelled well’ and is none the worse for wear. Mendelssohn is a seasoned professional and has acquired many air miles, even at the tender age of three. To have a horse of this quality is an achievement in itself and when running in such a prestigious race – it is the first leg of the Triple Crown – you want to have everything in your favour. A European trainer has never won this race, as yet, and we are all routing for Aidan and his team, but with Ryan Moore in the saddle he has the best chance to make history. Good luck.

Velvet Vision

Ascot is holding an auction today in aid of the Spinal Injuries Association. There are some fantastic lots on offer including the chance to buy a half-share in a filly, with training and expenses covered, Old Trafford tickets, spa day and Centre Court seats at Wimbledon to name just a few.  It is for a wonderful cause so dig deep.
