It’s another beautiful blue sky morning with bright sunshine, a light breeze and lovely temperature. It’s not supposed to be as hot today but it has certainly got off to a good start. We are using the polytracks on Racecourse Side this morning giving the horses a good canter then back to the yard for a cooling wash down. All has gone well.

Tim's happy with the horses

Police are now seeking witnesses for the appalling behaviour at Goodwood racecourse on Saturday when a number of yobs, fuelled by alcohol and sun, started a brawl. There has been a lot of criticism from racegoers regarding the lack of visible security. Apparently, according to general manager Alex Eade, there were plenty, but they were in suits to be a bit more unobtrusive. This obviously had the reverse effect. Things have to be learnt from this because genuine racing enthusiasts who take their family for a day out will be put off completely.

Chester will be hosting its first meeting of the year this week. It’s over three days starting today and going through until Friday. It is a fantastic meeting with the Cheshire Oaks, Chester Vase, culminating with the Chester Cup. The draw will play a huge part as the track is on a constant bend. If you are out wide you will definitely have a disadvantage. However, it is the most wonderful track and if you have never been before it must be one that you should try to attend.

Everyone at Frankland Lodge and Dullingham Park wish Mike Bowring a very happy birthday today. Mike, who has been with me since I started, has always been the most staunch and loyal owner and friend. Over the years he has had too many winners to name them all but they include the likes of Overpower, Topatori, Babodana, Topatoo and most recently Topapinion. Happy Birthday Mike and many more to come.
