Working on the Peat Moss gallop

It’s really quite overcast this morning but the sun is due to break through leaving a warm sunny day. The temperature should get up to around 19 degrees this afternoon which will make it very pleasant. We took a few horses over to the peat moss gallop to work first lot and all went well. The horses look in magnificent condition and I am very pleased with how things are going.

We have one runner today at Beverley. Four Fifty Three runs in the one mile two furlong handicap at 4.40. Paul Mulrennan takes the ride. It is a fairly hot race but he is working very well at home and is ready to go. I am hopeful of a good run.

There is an article today in the Racing Post still talking about the violence at both Goodwood and Ascot in recent weeks. Barry Hearn speaks a lot of sense and agrees that more money needs to be spent in order to keep the thugs under control. It is Newbury this weekend and they, in the past, have succumbed to a free for all when two rival football teams clashed. More is needed than just ‘bar spotters’ and CCTV. Security that is not afraid to get in the middle and defuse the situation is required. Let’s hope they have learnt from the recent episodes. Only time will tell.
