At 5 o’clock it was still warm and mild, but it has quickly darkened over and is now pouring with rain and looks set for the next hour or so. This will do nothing but good to the paddocks and the July course here at Newmarket where we have runners tomorrow. We have had a good morning so far with the horses and are now just about to set off to school a few at the Links. Hopefully that will go very smoothly and we can have some runners under that code very shortly.

Ness Of Brodgar

The big York meeting got off to a bang yesterday with some fantastic racing and we saw a great race for the Juddmonte International. It was quite tactically especially when they came over to the stand side rail which put one or two of them into trouble, notably the favourite, but that is racing and I am sure the best horse won on the day. Our tipping was not sparkling once again but we have got a few days to go yet and let’s hope today’s offering can do a lot better.

Walking back in the rain

It was lovely to see Alec Russell having a bench commemorated in his name at York yesterday. He was a marvellous photographer and everybody in racing respected and admired his work. He would love to know that York have done this and next time I am there I will go and sit on it and have a word with him. He was a very special man.
