Onwards and upwards ...

It's cold and frosty this morning

Walking back after first lot

It’s bright and frosty but once again no wind so not as cold as it could have been, in fact it is a lovely autumn morning. Southfields Round has been the canter once again and all has gone well. We have the long reins round most of the yearling fillies’ and have pads and rollers on them as well. It won’t be long before they have full tack on and then next week we will be on board.

I see the big announcement yesterday was that the two Tote rivals, Britbet and the Alizeti Group, have joined forces after long negotiations and have signed an agreement for seven years. This will mean the majority of British courses will have this company running their Tote on course. I am still not sure of the financial dealings that have gone on behind the scenes as not many will be privy to the details, but what I do know is that this new company needs to pull its finger out and get the Tote running for the benefit of racing with the majority of profits going back into the prize money pool rather than the pockets of management. I wait with interest as to what will happen.

The BHA is foisting another trial onto the trainers from the 1st December until 28th February where all flat races will be visible at the entries and declaration stages. This means that trainers will be able to see in real time what is declared or not. Now some may say this is a good idea, but believe it or not the majority of trainers are working so hard just to survive they cannot afford to be constantly sitting in front of a computer screen. All this does is suit the big trainers who have multiple secretaries and private handicappers / race planners who do this as their profession. Once again, a bit like the novice race system this has been pushed through to suit the few not the many. I don’t know whose idea this was originally but whoever it was has no idea how a normal trainers office works. I only hope that the system will not crash when you have everybody declaring in the last two minutes of declaration time, which is what will happen. It is very similar to Ebay if anybody has ever sold on there.
