Day 2 of The Festival after passing the inspection

Legging up

.. and pulled out

It’s a cold, windy morning after a very wet and wild day yesterday. We have one non-runner again on the riding front but everybody else is working like clockwork. Horses are going in and out and cantering as safely as possible in these conditions. You have to be very careful and keep your wits about you when riding out as items get blown about in the wind which can frighten the horses very quickly. It is just the case of finding as much shelter as possible.

It’s was a busy day yesterday with three mares being covered - one down in Wiltshire, one the other side of Royston and one very local in Newmarket. Everybody did a great job as the wind and rain was causing problems on the roads and there were a few hold-ups on most of the major routes. The mares all got covered well and I am pleased to say ovulated this morning, so let’s hope that is the last time they will be in a horsebox this seasons.

Astromagick and her colt foal

The first day of Cheltenham went off in very heavy rain but got better as the day went on. After the inspection this morning it goes ahead today as normal. I think the forecast for very strong winds has been moderated to just a good blow. I took the lead early in the tipping competition with a couple of winners and was unlucky not to have had another one. I will be trying to keep up the good work for the rest of the week. Richard will be playing catch up but it is easily done with one big price winner, especially with double odds for the NAP, which is our runner in the last every day. Our selections are below.

1.30  Sams Profile    2.10  Santini    2.50  Uradel    3.30  Min    4.10  Josies Orders    4.50  Band of Outlaws    5.30  Sempo
