It’s another overcast and damp start although it is not pouring down like it did yesterday and last night. It is set to stay this way all day with thundery showers forecast as the warm and the pressure comes up from the south. We have had a good morning so far with the horses, giving our Ascot runner a pipe opener on the Farm Canter. I was delighted with how she flew up there for four furlongs and let’s hope we get a good draw for Friday. The remaining horses have been on the Round Canter and all has gone well.

It was great to see a statue of the great Lester Piggott being unveiled at Ascot yesterday. Lester was undoubtedly the best jockey anybody will ever see and this is one of nine statues which are being put round the racing circuit. There was one unveiled at Epsom on Derby day and now we have this one at Ascot. I only wish that the honours committee would make him Sir Lester as that is what he should be. It was very harsh to take away his previous honour.

We had a good start to our tipping competition at Royal Ascot yesterday with Richard and I giving you the first three winners and then being close up in the remainder. The ground certainly changed after the first race and the draw suddenly started to come into play. I hope they missed most of the heavy rain last night although the ground is officially good to soft, soft in places at present. Any more would make it nearly heavy on the round course. Our efforts for day two are below.

MHT
2.30  Theory Of Time    3.05  Jalmoud    3.40  Magical    4.20  Veracious    5.00  Chief Ironside    5.35  Iffraaz

Richard
2.30  Kimari    3.05  Norway    3.40  Waldgeist    4.20  Indian Blessing    5.00  Afaak    5.35  Temple Of Heaven

Standings so far: MHT plus £13.75 and Richard plus £90.00

A little aside – I see Francesca Cumani nearly got kicked yesterday when talking in the paddock. I have always thought this was likely to happen as they get extremely close to these very highly strung horses and it is very intrusive.
