MHT gives Colin Bolger his orders as Smokey Oakey and Finger Spin take a turn

A really mixed morning with plenty of excitement, as there were  three loose ones but very pleasing nevertheless. First lot started with me taking six horses up to the Links to school and with the mornings just starting to get lighter, we were able to get on with this at 7.30 am. All was going well with Smokey Oakey, Finger Spin, Astrovenus and Miss Wendy until the last pair, where Ashley must have thought he saw half a crown on the floor, as he dived off Astrodiva at the second hurdle. She was soon caught and, as Ashley was unharmed, normal service resumed; so along with Watch Chain they jumped twelve flights of hurdles perfectly. On returning to the yard for second lot, I was told that Ron had been running around loose after cantering up the Town sand but again no harm was done and the rider was soon back on board before another canter followed. Now you know the old saying 'they always come in threes', well it usually comes true and during third lot one of the two year olds jumped and kicked and then proceeded to run loose with it's tack flapping up Warren Hill polytrack. Fortunately, several people were on hand to assist in the capture and again normal service resumed quickly. What a morning!

Quite a good reaction to the first day of the tariffs and I am led to believe that the racecourses are beginning to take note, which is all-to-the-good, as  we must work together for the future of the industry. It wouldn't take a lot of doing and I am sure there is plenty of good will on both sides.

Astroleo ran at Southwell yesterday and kept himself fit. He is a very good ride but needs to be motivated and will be running over hurdles again shortly.

MHT gets the feedback from second lot, as they head home

Newmarket's newest hotel is starting to appear from behind the white plastic sheeting, which has been covering it all winter. The Premier Inn, which has been built opposite Waitrose and just a stones throw from Flint Cottage, has caused a lot of controversy with the Newmarket residents but it is now built and, by the look of it, it will not be long before the grand opening. I am sure within a year or two the objections will all be forgotten. My only worry is the parking, which is in the public car park opposite.
