Onwards and upwards ...

A pretty murky start to the day....

"To be able under all circumstances to practice five things constitutes perfect virtue; these five things are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness."

A pretty murky start to the day with lowish cloud and a slight drizzle in the air; it has brightened up a little bit after breakfast but not much. We have been giving the two year olds a bit more education this morning with a canter up Warren Hill and then one around the Side Hill grass circus. All went very well and, as a bunch, I am delighted.

We have been re-furbishing our indoor ride this week with recycled material. All the lads have worked very hard with shovels and wheelbarows and it is a job very well done. It is a great improvement on the old sand and will not need to be dampened down on a daily basis. We are ,continually, making improvements to keep the yard and the stud looking how we want them but there is a remendous amount of maintenance on a daily basis and my two main maintenance men, Kelvin and Ryan, do a tremendous job. Up at Garrowby, Alan is in full control and organises the staff up there very well, so everything is ship-shape and in brilliant order; we are very lucky to have such a good team behind us.

Our first foal is thriving now and is going out in the foal paddocks twice a day for short periods with its mother and, as you can see from the photos, she is full of life and a real character. All the other mares are getting nearer and are beginning to stack up now and, I keep saying to Angie, we will have two or three in one night soon.
