Onwards and upwards ...

A good shower of rain overnight

Cornish Beau sets off at the bottom of Long Hill

''Use what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.''

 - Henry van Dyke

A good shower of rain overnight but not enough to make any difference to the going; it should, however, help damp the dust and with the grass growth, if nothing else. The horses have been cantering on Warren and Long Hill polytracks this morning and the rain has given everything a fresher feeling.

Astrolibra runs this evening at Wetherby in the 5.40 pm. race; she won well up there a week ago under Tony McCoy and he was keen to ride her again today. She has come out of her last race in good form and this race is four furlongs further, which we think should suit her. There are two other winners in the race tonight, who look dangerous but, nevertheless, she should go close.

Who would be a trainer? Just as everything was progressing smoothly towards the Derby, Darryll Holland had a fall at Beverley last night and has fractured his collar bone. Whilst we are, obviously, sorry for Darryll and wish him all the best for a speedy recovery, we could have done without this hiccup only a week before the Derby. At the time of writing, Darryll is going to Addenbrooke's Hospital today to have his injury assessed but it looks, as if he is going to be out of action for two to three weeks. Phil is desperately looking to see, who is available and the phone is red-hot with jockeys wanting to ride Ted Spread. There is a possibility that Kieren Fallon may be available but, at the moment, we are waiting for confirmation.

We shall update the website with any news about the Derby and the jockey situation for Ted Spread, as soon as we have any news.
