A dull, slightly overcast morning

Cornish Beau leads the string up Warren Hill

''Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.''

- T.E. Lawrence (The Seven Pillars of Wisdom)

MHT sorting everyone into their groups

A dull, slightly overcast morning and rain is forecast to arrive sometime this morning; we are desperate for a good dollop and my Irish information bureau tells me that it is bucketting down there and it is on its way to us - let us hope so. Just a good cantering morning with everything doing one or two canters and getting sorted out for the week.

We were delighted with Brushing yesterday, who was given a good ride by Ashley to win at Carlisle. Everything else ran well and the two year olds will come on in leaps and bounds for their runs; the only slight disappointment was Imjin River, who, I think, does not stay the six and a stiff five is ideal.

Today we have four runners at Leicester and one at Yarmouth tonight. In the 2.15pm at Leicester, we run Princess Izzy, a grey filly by Tale of the Cat, who has progressed well this spring and this run will do her the world of good, experience-wise. In the 3.15pm, we run Number One Guy (any rain would help his chances no end), I have always held him in high regard but I think that good or softer ground is his ideal. In the 4.15pm, we run Amno Dancer, who ran reasonably well at Yarmouth last time and is gradually slipping down the weights and could run into a place here. Finally, at Leicester, we run Ice Magic, in the 4.45pm, in what could turn out to be a well above-average maiden; he is another who will benefit greatly from this outing. Tonight at Yarmouth, we run Fasette in the 7.20pm, she has had three runs so far, two of them here at Yarmouth; she is a tall, long galloping filly, who is not drawn brilliantly at 15, as they will come down the middle and the undulations are more severe that side, let us hope that Ashley can keep her balanced and she can perform better than she has done in this low grade.

We see this morning that Aidan has ruled St. Nicholas Abbey out of the Derby and it looks like a field of between 10 and 14 will run on Saturday.

The England soccer team is being finalised this morning with the final 23 being selected to go to South Africa; Phil and I still think we have a chance of making the squad after the two poor build-up matches!
